Def Jam : The First 25 Years

Although making an introduction for a pioneering label such as this is pretty much useless, for those who are not aware of the impact that Def Jam has had on the music industry, a quick look at the list of artists that have been part of the label's roster up to this day, will be the only proof one can ask for. From Public Enemy and M.O.P to N.E.R.D and the Beastie Boys, Def Jam has laid the foundation for the rise of hip hop culture since the label came to reality in 1984 through the collaboration of legendary record producer Rick Rubin and hip hop persona Russel Simmons, although in a true demonstration of diversity it has even housed artists such as Slayer and Lady Gaga (!!!). The 300 page book which will be hitting bookstores on September 20th is filled with stories that the label has accrued over the years through the words of its own artists and executives, as well as behind-the-scenes photos and images from world-famous photographers like Martha Cooper and Jonathan Mannion.
