She's got the Steeze!

Alkistis Geropoulos is a 19 year old young lady from Volos, Hellas. She studies psychology at Oxford Brookes University. She's obsessed with her jewellery crafting,  interior design and singing. (She's got the voice!)

Who's your favourite Jewellery Designer?
Noone really, but me! Ha! I love contemporary designers, with an alternative and unique style. I craft my own pieces to sell so you better keep an eye out!

Any plans you had back in the innocent good old days of 90's, but not anymore?
I always wanted to become a psychologist and loved interpreting other people's thoughts and behaviour using my wealth of imagination. If you ask me I'd have to say that I'm fascinated by the neuroscience of the human brain.

Here's a song I recorded and I thought Alki would be an amazing influence.
I leave it up to you. You can judge it for FREE.

SKATEISTAN. To live and skate Kabul.

One of the most inspiring documentaries I've ever seen about skateboarding.

Thanks Danny.

A Taste of the Toast.

The older ones think that fixed-gear bikes have emerged as part of the hipster trend due to their appeal as a "vintage" accessory. The new ones just create a form of art through that to get away..

Kelly Slater VS Andy Irons

Currently considered the world's best surfers, Kelly Slater and Andy Irons were born to ride the biggest waves your eyes have ever seen. Feeling more comfortable inside the water than outside they have made a fortune showing their skills in one of the world's most spectacular but also dangerous extreme water sports.
Kelly Slater was born 38 years ago at Cocoa Beach Florida. It would be fair to say that he has become somewhat of a surf legend since he is the only athlete that has won the ASP Championship at the beginning as well as near the end of his career, making him the youngest and the oldest surfer to win that title. In 1997 Slater won his fifth world title, becoming the most successful champion in the history of surfing, and ten years later he became the all time leader in career event wins by shredding the Boost Mobile Pro event in California. He is also the first surfer to be awarded two perfect scores for a total 20 out of 20 points under the ASP two-wave scoring system. Slater's main sponsors are Quicksilver since the beginning of the 90's and Channel Island surfboards in which he has a signature series of fins. The list of trophies and titles he has won is literally endless including 43 WTC victories and 9 World titles, and even now at 38 years of age he is number one at the current world ranking. In the past year he finished first in three events he competed, at the Rip Curl Pro in Australia, the Hurley Pro in California and the Rip Curl Pro in Portugal. Slater's skills helped him to make a move on the big screen through a long catalogue of movies he appeared in, including Riding Giants in 2004, probably the most well known surf movie of all time, A Fly in the Champagne in which he appeared next to Andy Irons in 2009, as well as guest appearances in the TV series Baywatch and The Girls Next Door.
Andy Irons is a Hawaii native born and raised in North Shore and was attracted to surfing from a young age practicing in the reefs of Kauai. He is the only surfer in history ever to be given a nameday on the calendar since the governor of Hawaii named February 13th "Andy Irons day" as a reward for Irons's contribution to the state's community. This began when Irons came up with the idea of the Annual Irons Brothers Pinetrees Classic, a contest for young kids who are into surfing, a concept he and his brother Bruce who was also into surfing came up with. He won three consecutive titles from 2002 to 2004, three Quiksilver Pro France titles from 2003 to 2005, two Rip Curl Pro Search titles in 2006 and 2007 and holds an impressive 19 elite tour victories. His latest achievement was on September 3rd 2010 when he won the Billabong Pro in Tahiti. Irons's sponsors include some of the biggest names in extreme sports like Billabong, Von Zipper and Nixon Watches. Like Kelly Slater he has also appeared on various movies, the most well known being Blue Horizon, a documentary portraying his life during the WTC tour and the rivalry that he and Slater have since they started competing against each other, as well as Trilogy starring himself along with Joel Parkinson and Taj Burrow.

Here's a just little sample of both of them ripping it up

LA Community Spirit

This week, a new exhibition will open by LA-based photographer Michael Flores at Echo Park Independent Co-op (also known as EPIC). The show, named 4209, displays 44 photographs, each one portraying a different person who is located in the LA vicinity.
The shoot took place over a two-day period at the photographer's apartment, after which was completely cleared out, leaving no trace of the previous days' work. The aim of Flores' shoot, in his own words, was to 'document the space of [his] apartment' and to 'bring together people from all over the LA community who many not normally encounter each other'; an optimistic and philanthropic mission.

EPIC, a relatively new store, opened to the LA public earlier this year with the idea, as its founders Rhianon Jones and Tristan Scott state, to 'be a community leader and a social bridge for the community in fashion, art, music, visual arts and the environment', with a personal aim to 'promote local young fashion talent and artists'.
With both artist and gallery hosting the passionate idea of community spirit in the LA area, it would seem that they are a match made in heaven. Any true LA-er would surely be mad to miss this one.

Within the post are a few portraits from the up-coming exhibition that caught my eye.

Captured - London Premier

An exciting film by Clayton Patterson. Probably the most important film based on street culture. Filmed during the past decades featuring any kind of street culture. You'll get an inside view of "the back in the day" subcultural groups and their influence in society. You will be able to evaluate and rethink the true reason of the existence of such groups.

DJ Shadow x LRG

He is one of the most, if not the most, well known djs in the genre of electronic music. Despite the success and recognition he has gained especially over the past decade Josh Davis aka Dj Shadow, has moved from being just a dj and producer to a fully flared businessman. His latest endeavour was his involvement in the production of the Sony Playstation video game "DJ Hero", but before that he teamed up with street brand LRG for a three part series of apparel including a tshirt,a jacket and a wind breaker as well as a New Era 59 Fifty hat. In case you're interested bear in mind that most of these pieces are strictly available through Shadow's personal website at ShopDJShadow.com

The best in the game.

The Vintage Craze: Are we stylish or just nostalgic?

This coming Sunday, York Hall in Bethnal Green, London, will host The Affordable Vintage Fair, a very successful and ever-expanding display of clothes, shoes, jewellery and homeware for sale from several decades of style; enough to make any vintage enthusiast wade through the swamp that is weekend Tube traffic and delays in order to be there.

And so, despite inspiring me to make the hour-long commute to London on a Sunday, the fair also initiated a debate in my mind. What is it about second-hand clothing that makes us so fascinated, so excited, so easily parted with our money?

Despite an appreciation for the old and the interesting existing for years, it is only in the last decade or so that the demand for vintage clothing has increased dramatically, leading to vintage becoming an industry in itself.
For some, interest in second-hand clothing stems from a love of history, a nostalgia for the past and the 'good old days' along with the feeling of uniqueness that
a beautiful garment from generations before them brings. For others, it is about the actual act of searching in a dusty old shop to uncover buried treasure. And for a few, it is all about the style, the eccentricity, and the knowledge that fashion is one big cycle, meaning any day now that fuchsia jacket with the shoulder pads will be back in style! And of course, I must mention the practical reasons for choosing second-hand clothing in that it is ethical; through purchasing clothes that are, essentially, hand-me-downs, you are recycling. Furthermore, the cost compared to modern manufactured clothing is much less.
And so, in taking all these factors into careful consideration, I have come to the conclusion that there is no conclusion. Like everything else, one must find their own reasons for being passionate about it. Me personally? In the words of a good friend of mine, I like to see each piece of clothing as 'a beautiful piece of art that I wear on my body'.
Get down to the Affordable Vintage Fair this Sunday. See you there!

Listen to WeFunk

WeFunk is a weekly radio show held on Montreal's CKUT 90.3, McGill University's radio station in Canada. The show began airing regularly in 1996 demonstrating a fine stream of Funk, Soul, R&B and Hip Hop grooves from the past and the present, hosted by djs Professor Groove and DJ Static who are the creators of the show. In 1998 WeFunk expanded even further including an internet radio streams which eventually became one of the oldest continuously operating radio stream worldwide. Three years later in 2001, WeFunk was also featured in Apple's new iTunes radio directory, and that was how Alexander and myself discovered it by chance a couple of years ago. WeFunk has had a website for a number of years which has been taken care of by Professor Groove and offers shows for streaming. The website offers most of the show's history available to stream, starting at show 168, when it first started back in 2001. In 2007, WeFunk shows reached an audience of at least ten thousand regular listeners, but has always maintained a DIY, ad-free ethic by being consistent with its roots in community radio. On the 4th of November Professor Groove and DJ Static will be coming to Athens for the first time and I will be throwing an opening dj set for them

Until then listen to www.wefunkradio.com/radio

One of the Best Yet

Almost 35 years ago back in 1975, iconic skate figures Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta sat down to design the Vans #95, known today as the Era, one of the biggest hits in the company's history. The Era featured a padded collar and along with the fact that it came out in a number of different colour combinations quickly made it the shoe of choice for a whole generation of skateboarders. Today the brand has raised the bar even higher with limited edition styles, patterns and colors, including a lengthy series of collaborations with various bands such as AFI, Bad Religion and Suicidal Tendencies. Recently Los Angeles based street brand UNDFTD collaborated with Vans on a special edition Era model coming out in four different colors featuring both companies logo on the heel. The Era has also been a hit among artists of different musical backgrounds, especially actors and musicians such as Adam Sandler and Chris Brown
